Although more than half a century has passed since the United Nations General Assembly adopted Article 4 of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, joined by 179 countries, racial discrimination is still present in societies today. The case of George Floyd is just a stark example.
Racism is a fatal disease and represents a threat to societal peace. It is unacceptable that certain groups of society are dealing with marginalisation, hostility, discrimination and physical or verbal abuse due to racist motives.
In respect to the victims of racial discrimination, the Council of European Muslims, which strives to oppose any form of discrimination, calls on governments to take all necessary measures to ban racism in their institutions and to dismiss all forms of racial discrimination. We also ask individuals to be socially courageous and reject racial prejudice.
