The Danish government’s so-called “Commission for the Forgotten Women’s Struggle” has recently recommended banning the hijab in primary schools.
The recommendation came as the country prepares for early elections, amid different feedback from political parties and civil society institutions.
In this regard, Council of European Muslims (CEM) stresses on the following points:
– Hijab ban recommendation violates freedom of religion, and can never be a solution to social problems within the so-called immigrant societies in Denmark.
– Such topics should not be used as a political tool during elections, as it incites discrimination against Muslims.
– We call upon the Muslim community in Denmark to unify their position towards the proposal.
– We commend the position of the the Jewish community in Denmark against this so-called government proposal.
