Just as the people of Gaza began to breathe a sigh of relief following the ceasefire—bringing an end to over fifteen months of suffering, destruction, and loss of life—reports emerged of the US President’s remarks on a proposal to expel and displace Palestinians from Gaza, seizing the territory for American interests.

The Council of European Muslims, closely monitoring these developments, stresses the following:

  • Palestinians have an undeniable right to their land and homeland. This right cannot be subject to proposals that contravene international law and conventions, nor can it be disregarded in defiance of historical and geographical realities.
  • The priority at this stage must be to ensure a lasting ceasefire, with all parties held to their commitments. This will allow hundreds of thousands of displaced people to return home, rebuild, and resume their lives with dignity.
  • The international community, particularly the European Union, must push for a credible and sustainable peace initiative, grounded in UN resolutions and committed to their full implementation.
  • We urge relief organisations and Islamic centres across Europe to take an active role in Gaza’s reconstruction, helping to restore essential infrastructure and provide vital support to its people.
