Contemplation:
The reality of self isolation that we are experiencing, optional or obligatory, is the result of the spread of the Coronavirus which sets us up against a challenge like no other. We have no freedom in travel or gathering, our normal routines of work, meetings etc. However this challenge has brought forth many opportunities which we didn’t have previously. What we previously complained about having no time for, we are now given plenty of time and our excuses are no longer an obstacle.
– We have an opportunity to take a step away from our daily routine and reflect in our affairs.
– We now have a surplus of time to take advantage of and invest in our deen and our worldly matters, especially dihkr and worship.
– We have an opportunity to regroup as a family and bond over group activities.
– We have an opportunity to rethink our approach towards social connection, our extended families and neighbours.
– We have an opportunity to reflect upon this pandemic and how it effected people, its causes and the trace it leaves behind on us as individuals, as a society and the nature.
So were we destined to these opportunities? Truly the matter of the believer is all good, and with every tribulation comes an opportunity. The opportunity to contemplate is ultimately what Allah swt has distinguished human beings apart from his other creations and it is our means to knowing our Creator and to appreciate his blessings upon us.
“Say, [O Muhammad], Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation. Indeed Allah, over all things, is competent.” (Al-Ankabout – 20)
