The Council of European Muslims expresses its deep concern over the new measures targeting Muslims in Austria, and the involvement of government, media, and academic parties in the incitement against Muslims.

The measures specifically include “Islam Map,” showing the names and locations of over 600 mosques and associations in the country, in a way that exposes Muslims’ lives in danger.

Therefore, the Council of European Muslims (CEM):

– Warns of the serious consequences of such a move, that not only targets Muslims but also threatens Austrian community harmony.

– Supports the Special Representative on Antisemitic and Anti-Muslim Hatred and Hate Crimes Mr. Daniel Höltgen’s statements, in which he said the “Islam Map” of Austria overshoots the mark, serves existing resentments, and therefore has a potentially counterproductive effect.

– Calls on the Austrian government to withdraw the map from the site and reconsider its policies towards its Muslim citizens in a way that guarantees their rights and helps them perform their duties.

– Calls on Islamic associations and institutions in Austria to fill a lawsuit to stop such biassed measures.
